Hall of Mirrors

She was trapped. She had no idea how, or when it started. All she knew was that she was there, alone, in a cold, dark place.

Around her were three round mirrors that form her prison. One directly behind her, one to her left, another to her right. She could feel them coming closer and closer, reducing the breathing space around her, daring her to take a look. She remained sitting, pulling her knees closer to her chest, taking them in a cold embrace.

But it had to be done. She had to look, come face each fear, for that was the only way to be free.

Untangling her arms from her knees, she stood, with a tremble.

“It has to be done,” she whispered, and heard her voice echo through the emptiness.
